It is a claustrophobic’s worst nightmare: the walls close in on you as the hallway becomes crammed with freshmen, juniors and sophomores…DOES SENIORITY MEAN ANYTHING IN J-TOWN!
Ahh the bell rings…five minutes. Five minutes to use the restroom, stop at the water fountain for hydration, and haul you-know-what from B-side all the way to C-side and be in your seat before the bell rings. Seems like such as easy task for someone who has been in the halls of J-town for four years now, but everyday it is a struggle.
Everyday the halls of J-town are filled with what I like to call a stampede of animals, going whichever way, yelling, screaming, running, jumping, bumping, and conversing in the hallways like there is not a thing called a class. You know that room you sit in for an education. EDUCATION. You know that thing you come to school for. Well, it seems to float out the window-or maybe is trampled in the hallways by our student body.
I cannot help but wonder why it takes me half of my day to make it around to my classes. Some classes in the next hallway take forever to reach, reminding me of six ‘o clock rush hour traffic on Hurstborne. My patience boils down to almost non-existent. I cannot help but wonder why the people in front of me are moving like turtles, more like turtles that just got run over by a semi truck. Although I think if the turtle got run over by a semi truck with one leg still capable of moving, they would surpass this crowd. As much as I try to fathom and contemplate why some students move so slowly, I just do not get it. Why is it that one cannot multi-task…walk and talk at the same time?
In my four years at Jeffersontown High School, no teacher is that bad. If you prove my theory wrong…oh well, moan and groan about it while you walk to class QUICKLY. Some may think I am asking for a little too much and to speed their pace up in the hallway would require more physical fitness than a P.E. class, but seniors only have three more months…so please MOVE OUT OF OUR WAY!

April 23rd, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Well said, Cheyenne! Try navigating the halls with hot coffee in one hand, a bag full of work that still needs to be graded on your shoulder, AND a big ‘ol heavy plastic bin crammed with senior portfolios on one hip. Then you can say you’ve truly beat the odds.
May 4th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
its like, yea, im tryin to get to c side, im all the way on the far end of b side and i got like 3 minutes. it is really aggravating.
May 5th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
I agree with you. I mean we only have 5 minutes in between classes. you are trying to get to your locker or the bathroom and then go to class but you have people who are walking very slow like there is no tardy hall.
Don’t you think other students feel the same, not just senoirs? We have other students who try to get to class too. I’m a sophomore but I get mad when other students are walkin slow. and you know some of the seniors walk slow in the hall so I don’t think it is fair to blame it on the 9th, 10th,or 11th
May 5th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
i agree. im over here tryin to get to my class. and im walking right behind people. sometimes i walk so close to them they turn around looking at me. like i was about to hit them or something.
May 7th, 2009 at 10:46 am
I completely agree with you. Trying to get to class in only five mintues while other people stand around and talk or just plain move slow. It is annoying. However this doesn’t just apply to seniors. Other students feel the same way. Forget the end of the year. My main focus is 2:20.
May 7th, 2009 at 10:46 am
I know what u mean, what makes these people walk so slow
May 7th, 2009 at 10:49 am
I can relate to it as especially if there’s a fight and everyone is going to see it. I mean I would like to see it too, but I don’t think it’s right to cheer them on and having no one going up to stop them. I would be there and thinking what would happen if the bell rang and I am still here, or by the time the crowd cleared there will be that bunch of slow walking people in the hallways to make you really go to tardy hall.
May 7th, 2009 at 10:49 am
I feel the same way! i hate it when slow people get in front of me. but i dont mind the slow walking nearly as much as random people yellin in your ear
May 7th, 2009 at 10:49 am
THIS IS SO RIGHT. I hate this! People walk slow, stop in huge groups to talk, and create a barricade in the halls. You could have your hands full, and yet if you bump into them, they yell at you to “watch where you’re going”! Then right before the bell rings, they run like crazy through the halls and run into people.
Ridiculous.
May 7th, 2009 at 10:51 am
I completely agree with you on this subject. I dont understand why anyone wants to walk slow to class and just stand there IN THE MIDDLE of the hallway blocking everyone. By doing this it seems like it would slow down your day even more and who wants that?
May 7th, 2009 at 10:55 am
I completly agree with this article. It is as if people do not care to make people late to class, walking as if they have all day to get across the school. To add, Every single class is on opposite ends from one another.
Tough.
May 7th, 2009 at 10:57 am
Oh my gosh. Be quiet and stop whinning. We will all eventually be seniors and all of us will have to deal with big headed seniors crowding the hallways just as much as the freshmen and acting even worse most of the time. I as a sophmore remember the confusion of being a freshman and remember absolutly no senior help. Maybe if you all would stop and help people younger than you, hallway movement might go a little faster.
May 7th, 2009 at 10:58 am
Normally I try to dodge people but it is hard when they stop like a dead group of cattle in front of you. Then they have the nerve to turn and get angry with me because I ran into them.
“WELL KEEP WALKING THEN!”
I may be a tenth grader but I know the feeling of getting trapped in the hallway. I usually try to walk fast and stay out of people’s way, but when I get stuck no one can describe how angry I get.
May 7th, 2009 at 11:03 am
Im right with you. even as a sophomore i have the same issue. people can stop to talk, i dont care, just move over to the side to let the people who want to go to class get there.
May 7th, 2009 at 11:06 am
I know right!! I can’t stand walking down the long hallway between b and c side or thru the cafeteria because of the people walking like they have until tomorrow to get to class when they know good and well that we have 5 minutes. And on top of that when people wanna stop and act all lovey dovey or talk like they have no where to be. Get to class and keep it moving lol. Plus, its not only us “underclassmen”. its seniors too and idt its fair to blame it on just us.
May 7th, 2009 at 11:10 am
I’m not even a senior, and I’m just as frustrated as you! I hate when people walk slow, and on top of that I hate when people walk slow, then turn around and scream in my ear! People need to be more considerate and at least move over, where they are out of the middle of the hallway.
May 7th, 2009 at 11:14 am
Yeah ya’ll it ticks me off when people stop in the middle of the hall. Then some sit there and turn around and run into you. Then they get mad tryin to tell you to watch out.
May 9th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
I agree with this a hundred times over. I’ve had people walking backwards in the hallway run into me and yell at ME for it like I magically put a spell on them to make them walk backwards like an idiot down the hallway.
May 11th, 2009 at 7:44 am
It’s not that Seniors are the only ones that truly care about getting to class, but we really do care about passing. In order to pass your classes you have to be FOCUSED and actually ATTEMPT to get to class instead of screaming and walking so incredibly slow. It’s really aggravating to have a million different things to do when someone decides to chat it up with someone else. This is school, not social hour.
May 22nd, 2009 at 7:50 am
i think the only thing to do that is fun(well to me anyways) is to “accidently” spill your drink on them. But then again there are alot of people in the hallways.
May 28th, 2009 at 5:05 am
Stop whining. You seniors think ya’ll rule the school. Yeah I do agree with you but the people who walk slow may have a reason to. You seniors walk slow too but I don’t hear you complaining about it.
May 28th, 2009 at 5:26 am
i agree with you. I hate it when your walking a steady pace and so is the person in front of you then that person just stops an turns around like no one is behind them. This schools hallway is like a highway, you got people on one side going one way and people on the other side going the other way, with this going on it’s hard for a person going around some one who is walking slow because then you would just start a traffic jam.
November 11th, 2009 at 6:21 am
I agree with you it is so annoying how everybody walks slow and stops in the hallways just to give somebody a hug. Its so hard going through B side hallway its crowded and a mess. Students dont listen to Curtis when he says move. It really gets annoying
November 11th, 2009 at 6:53 am
agreed!
November 11th, 2009 at 6:54 am
ugh it makes me sooo mad when people walk soooo slow!!! hahaha this makes me giggle!!
November 11th, 2009 at 6:58 am
The hallways are wayyyyy too crowded!
November 11th, 2009 at 6:59 am
I 10000% agree. I’ve been here for only a year and a half, and i HATE going to class! I wish i can poof! be in my class without the strugle of other people.
November 11th, 2009 at 6:59 am
I completly agree with this article.
November 11th, 2009 at 6:59 am
I totally agree. It’s freaking annoying. If i could i’d karate chop their neck.
November 11th, 2009 at 7:00 am
underclassmen will get the chance to be a senior but It’s our year this year. Class of 2010 rules this school!
November 11th, 2009 at 7:02 am
People just need stop getting in these huge groups and move to a hallway that’s not too busy. Walking through the hallways is a nightmare…just get to class and get the school day over with and conversate after school..also people need to learn how to walk faster then 2mph to class..
November 11th, 2009 at 7:03 am
I agree. I hate it when people stop in the middle of the hall way. People get on my nerves w/ that stuff. I mean- Hello get out the way! I’m trying to get class here. I don’t have time to go to tardy hall.
November 11th, 2009 at 7:05 am
I DONT HAVE TIME FOR IT I JUST CUSS THEM OUT AND KEEP IT MOVIN OR JUS WALK AROUND DEPENDIN ON WHAT TYPE OF MOOD IM IN>!!!!!
November 11th, 2009 at 7:11 am
This is one of the biggest things i hate about the little kids that are at J-town. The only thing i dislike more than slow walkers is the people that want to stand in huge crowds, that just talk or mess around and get in your way in the door ways. when you bump into them they look at you like YOU have to say excuse me. There are just days where i wanna plow through all the ignorant people and let them to to get out of my way when im goin to class.
November 14th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
holy moley just because ya’ll dont want to crease your shoes or pull up your pants does not mean you have to walk sooo slow. this is ridiculous. Dont get mad because people run into you, its your fault not ours. Dont stop in the middle of the hallway to talk or give somebody a hug, that is what lunch is for. Its really annoying how everybody fake hits somebody saying “bop” when they swing their arm in the air and hits nothing. All that it does makes you look stupid this is not kindergarden!! Really??
November 15th, 2009 at 8:24 am
I hate this too. However, seniors are not the only ones that have to deal with it. I hate trying to get to class and you can’t get through so you politely say excuse me and they dont hear you because they are being loud so you say excuse me a little louder and they want to fight you because you were being “rude.”
November 16th, 2009 at 8:57 am
I hate the halls of jtown but i hate even worse for people to be horsing around and “not see me” then i get stepped on because i am short. and i am not even the shortest in school, man i feel sorry for the little ones.
November 20th, 2009 at 6:03 am
omg i hate it when ever people stop walking in the hallway!!!!! we only have 5 minutes to go to the restroom , go to our lockers and getr to class
!!!! STOP STOPPING IN THE HALLWAY!!!
November 20th, 2009 at 6:19 am
I think that people should walk a little bit faster because when they walk slow its going to make you late
November 20th, 2009 at 7:18 am
what a great idea. The slow moving people of this school need to move faster or get out of the way
November 20th, 2009 at 7:57 am
This is funny cause most of the ones commenting do it. But i find if you talk to the person after school or close to the lockers its alot easier for the ones who have classes or care about getting to class to move. If you wanna hug someone wait until after school or before school, dont waste peoples time with PDA.
November 20th, 2009 at 8:00 am
Also not ALL SENIORS WALK SLOW!
We just cant move around any of you when you keep talking and walking.
November 20th, 2009 at 8:48 am
When people walk slow and cause me to be late to class I get annoyed expecially after lunch when the main halls are so crowded with people just standing and talking. Shut up, or walk while you talk. I don’t want to be late to calss just because you want to discuss todays latest drama.
November 20th, 2009 at 11:51 am
It takes me 2 minutes to walk the twenty feet from lunch to Mrs.Sattich’s room. pitiful
November 20th, 2009 at 11:59 am
It is very crowded and people are always walking slow like they are struting for someone . Who is there at jtown to impress and look good for ?
November 20th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
This is so true. I hate walking behind freshmann who think they’re so special and take forever. and then get mad when you run into them. It’s rude and disrespectful to the students who havee been here longer and now how to get around the school. Learn your way around or move.
November 20th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
I agree people do walk pretty slow
November 20th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
In response to your rhetorical question at the beginning, seniority only matters in JROTC, or if your a brownnoser.
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:06 am
I feel the same way and I’m a freshman! I hate the fact that there is always a group of people in the middle of the hall, blocking everyone’s paths. And it’s not just the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors! Seniors are doing the same thing and I find it irritating that I have to force myself through the halls to get to class.
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:11 am
This is SOO TRUE! I barely have time to get from class to class as it is, let alone with 100 slow people in front of me. Most of the time, I find myself trying to weave through the traffic and at the same time, not get whacked in the face by someones 50-pound backpack. J-town needs a better system from getting to class to class. At TJ, we had a line for the left side and the right side of the hallway that we ha dto follow and the traffic there flows much more smoothly.
November 23rd, 2009 at 12:00 pm
WOW, i know exactly what you mean! That and when there is one line of people going one way and like 4 going the other way! Like in the Lunchroom when the bell rings. Uug!
November 24th, 2009 at 6:14 am
i agree people do walk slow and that makes me want to hit them cause i have places to go before the bell rings.
November 24th, 2009 at 6:27 am

December 3rd, 2009 at 9:36 am
Hallway intersections are not social spots… KEEP WALKING
January 12th, 2010 at 10:10 am
I agree with you. I mean we only have 5 minutes in between classes. you are trying to get to your locker or the bathroom and then go to class but you have people who are walking very slow like there is no tardy hall.
January 12th, 2010 at 10:15 am
I Feel The Same Way . Taking All Day Walking All Slow Like They Ain’t Got Nowhere To Go .
January 12th, 2010 at 10:15 am
I agree with this article 100%. Sometimes I hate walking to class, because people think they need to stop and talk, and theres absolutley no room to walk around them.
January 12th, 2010 at 10:16 am
im only a sophmore but i still think people walk wayyy to slow in the hallway. people always have to stop in the MIDDLE of the hall and they cant go to the side. and its always hard to get through the groups of people.
January 12th, 2010 at 10:21 am
I agree completely. It’s frustrating trying to get from one end to the other with careless people stopping in the middle of the hall to reach over for a hug or to chit-chat. Unfortunately this happens almost anywhere in large crowds and is hard to avoid.
January 12th, 2010 at 10:23 am
how about lets not stop in the middle of the hallway & just hope everybody walks around you.
January 12th, 2010 at 10:23 am
I agree with this article because it aggravates me when people walk very slow in the hallways when there is only 5 minutes to get to class.
January 12th, 2010 at 10:23 am
YES. I hate slow walkers ecspecially if they from louisville.
January 12th, 2010 at 10:52 am
Dude oh my god I absolutley hate the people that randomly stop. Oh my god, there’s other people too that’s trying to get to class. There’s some people that want to get an EDUCATION and have a GOOD future with alot of their OWN money. Instead the slow/stopping people are going to be the friends that ask for some money because they can’t pay their very expensive cell phone bill, that they shouldn’t have got in the first place. I hate the hallways of this freaking school !!!
January 12th, 2010 at 11:16 am
Right, people be walkin slow im like “Dont you need to get to class and you walkin slow” SPEED UP. Yall legs aint broken to walk like you life depends on it
January 12th, 2010 at 11:19 am
I agree we only have 5 minutes between classes and if you are trying to get to your locker or the bathroom and then go to class and there are people walking very slow, stopin in the middle of the hall and talking who get mad wen you say move or speed up….it makes you wana punch them but it doesnt only go 4 SENIORS
January 12th, 2010 at 12:00 pm
i walk slow, and i better not ever get hit in the head
January 12th, 2010 at 12:14 pm
yes its really annoying when im trying to get to class and the person in front of me takes forever
January 12th, 2010 at 12:16 pm
I totally agree, it’s impossible to even use my locker with these condition. I’m one of those kids that like getting to class early and making sure you don’t get late.
January 14th, 2010 at 6:07 am
ayo real talk im probably the slowest walking person in the hall..but the bell waits for me to get to class so its not a problem… and i best not get hit.
January 14th, 2010 at 6:16 am
Push them out of the way. Easy as that.
January 14th, 2010 at 6:25 am
This is a fan app on facebook….
but i agree
January 14th, 2010 at 6:26 am
yea i hate slow people because i walk fast so if you get in my way i might just run you over
but sometimes i do what the title says LOL
January 14th, 2010 at 8:12 am
RIGHT…PPL NEED TO GET TO CLASS
January 14th, 2010 at 11:50 am
yea thats how everyone feels i think
January 14th, 2010 at 11:58 am
I agree, it is annoying.
January 14th, 2010 at 11:59 am
yea i hate when people walk all slow, or stop to talk or hug somebody, its to annoying. Move out the way!!!
January 21st, 2010 at 6:54 am
i feel it but its not just the under classman seniors doit too it gets on my last nerve
January 21st, 2010 at 6:58 am
Uh, if you can get to your classes then why are you complaining? I rarely see any problem with hallways and how crowded they are. In fact, “crowded” might as well not even be used to describe the hallways, as they are pretty clear. Unless there is a large group of people sitting around then there isn’t that much to worry about.
But that’s my opinion.
January 26th, 2010 at 7:58 pm
Get an air horn - they’ll move.
